8 Reasons To Teach on Skillshare (2024)

Let's chat about the possibility of you adding a new income stream this month, shall we?

I'm encouraging you to teach a class on Skillshare–even if you've never considered the idea of teaching online!

You are going to love these 8 reasons to teach on Skillshare.

Skillshare has millions of students.

This is a good thing for you as a potential teacher because it means there is a built-in audience of students who already use the platform and love to take new classes.

Creating a class on Skillshare is pretty easy.

Teach others a skill you already possess.

You may have spent years working in your current job.

Whether you love your job or hate it, it's likely you've picked up a thing or two that you just naturally became pretty good at.

Those skills you've picked up are valuable in a marketplace like Skillshare.

Get practice creating an online course.

Instead of jumping head-first into creating a full-blown course all on your own, creating a shorter class on Skillshare can really help to ease you into the process.

It also helps that they offer the 30-day teach challenge every month which gives you access to additional resources and not to mention motivation from other teachers participating in the challenge.

Validate your course ideas.

If you're not sure about how in-demand your course idea is, publishing a “shorter version” of it on Skillshare and promoting it to potential students can help you to validate whether or not you should spend hours and hours of work creating the full-blown version of the course.

Tap into the power of a built-in audience.

For sure, one of the hardest parts of creating any digital course is the actual marketing/promotion of that course.

Publishing to Skillshare gives you a little bit of an advantage because you potentially have access to a pool of millions of students who pay to learn on Skillshare.

Of course, you still have to put in the work to market your course, but tapping into this audience can make things a little easier.

Connect with other instructors and build a network.

I've remained connected with several of my fellow instructors on Skillshare. Making it in the online world is just as much related to your connections as it is in face-to-face business.

Beyond that, running an online business can get lonely. It's nice to create friendships with other instructors who understand what you're going through in terms of creating content.

Your network can also lead to future collaborations and partnerships with instructors.

Gain exposure for your work.

Skillshare is a huge marketplace that gets tons of traffic each and every day.

I've had so many different entrepreneurs and companies reach out to me for collaborations and partnerships simply because they found me on Skillshare.

Don't underestimate the power of exposure on the platform.

Practice engaging and communicating with a student base.

Once a student joins one of your classes, they will be notified each time you post a new class. You also have access to send those students occasional emails via Skillshare.

If this is your first time teaching, this gives you an opportunity to practice how you communicate with your students, motivate them, and get them to know, like, and trust you even more.

Some of those students will even turn into subscribers of your blog!

Make a steady monthly income.

One thing that I really love about publishing classes on Skillshare is that as long as you have at least 30 premium minutes of class time watched by your students each month, you get paid every month on the 16th–WITHOUT FAIL.

The size of those paychecks fluctuates, but it is a steady income.

Hopefully, the reasons I've given above have convinced you that Skillshare is a great place to teach a class.

I've been a Skillshare teacher for a couple of years now and it's still enjoyable. While I don't make a full-time income from Skillshare, I do make a steady chunk of side income that gets automatically deposited in my PayPal account once per month.

It's enough of an income chunk that it's worth suggesting that you explore it as a new income stream.

One strategy that has been super helpful for me is to publish a “lite” version of some of my courses on Skillshare and then publish the full version of my course with any add-ons and bonuses via my Teachable school.

So, I'm effectively taking the same content and making it available in two different places–this means more exposure and more income 🙂

If you are new to creating online courses, teaching on Skillshare is a great way to get your feet wet and get some exposure on a platform with a built-in audience

If this sounds even a little bit intriguing to you, my suggestion is to sign-up andtakea couple of classes in your niche.

Consider it a little competitive research to see the possibilities!
